basically a month

Wow. 4 weeks ago, I stepped on to a plane, not knowing where I was gonna land. Of course I knew, that my flight was gonna land in Alicante, but I didn't know, where I, as a Person, was gonna land.
I've been preparing for this experience ever since October 2016. In December I found out that I was going to Spain. ( to the quietening of my parents because my 2nd choice was Colombia ;)
Ever since the day of the application I've been looking forward to my exchange. I imagined how it was gonna be like all the time. I planned everything in my head. But I never knew, that your most beautiful fantasies could be even more beautiful.
That is what I experienced when I got here. I was overwhelmed by everything. I knew that I was going to Spain since December, but I didn't know what awaited me there.
The feeling of being able to call this City, this Country my home, is a true privilege.
I cannot even start to describe how much I love this country and everything it has to offer. I've only been here for 4 weeks, but Santa Ana (Cartagena) already feels like my hometown. Santa Ana is the place, where so many people, I can now call my friends, live. Where part of my Family lives. And I honestly couldn't be happier here.
Of course I miss my friends and Family from Switzerland a lot. And when I say a lot, I mean a lot. A few daily examples when I miss my friends in particular (they will understand) : whenever I take a mirrorselfie, when I see something related to ballet or dance, when I drink herbal tea ( tee extra no) or when I see people feeling the texture of an Avocado.
I do miss them, a whole lot. But I also know, that they know, that I feel amazing here. That I couldn't have been placed in a better city. And knowing, that they know that I'm fine, calms me down a lot.
It's not easy for a 15 year old girl to leave everything she's known for all her life behind. But that's exactly what I wanted. That's what I've been preparing for. And it's way more amazing, than I could've ever imagined.

CYR

Letztes Wochenende fand in meiner Stadt ein Fest statt. Dass war der Grund warum wir letzte Woche auch nur bis und mit Mittwoch Schule hatten. Das Fest hiess Carthagineses y Romanos (CYR) und glich mehr einer 'chilbi' als einem Stadtfest. Auf jeden Fall besuchte ich es am Donnerstag Abend mit meinen Freundinnen. Wir gingen auf viele Bahnen und später zu einem Platz wo viele Autos mit lauter Musik standen. Wir tanzten viel und gingen dann sehr früh (um zwei Uhr) dann auch nach Hause. Das Wochenende verbrachte ich dann in Hellin, wo ich den Grossteil meiner Zeit in der Weinbar meiner Gasteltern verbrachte. Gestern spät sind wir dann wieder zurück gekommen und heute hatten wir wieder normal Schule. Viel spezielles ist diese Woche nicht passiert, aber ich wollte trotzdem bisschen etwas auf diesem Blog schreiben. 3 weeks

It has been more than 3 weeks now since my arrival here in Spain. I can't even explain how much I love this place and all the people I've already been able to meet. Of course there are times where I'm homesick. For example 3 days ago. It was the birthday party of one of my friends here and she invited a whole lot of people. At the beginning everything went smoothly but then suddenly things got worse. Everyone was getting really nervous and people started crying. There were a lot of reasons for this sudden change of mood. But anyways, basically in the end everyone was crying except for me. People seemed to have forgotten about me. I was sitting in the corner alone, not knowing what was going on. Everyone was talking in spanish and they were talking really fast. In this moment, all I wanted was to be home. Home in Switzerland where everyone spoke my language and everything. 2 girls came and sat with me and explained me what was going on. And suddenly my homesickness was gone

Gestern hat hier endlich auch die Schule begonnen. Das erste Mal in meinem ganzen Leben, hatte ich richtig Freude wieder zurück zur Schule zu gehen. Bevor die Schule aber begann, hatten wir ein Orientation Weekend in Madrid. Das ist so ein Zusammentreffen aller Inbounds (alle Austauschschüler die mit Rotary für dieses Jahr in Spanien sind) . Auch dort waren einige Rotex (Spanier welche ihr Austauschjahr schon hinter sich haben und wieder zurück sind), sowie alle Präsidente etc. Alles in allem war dieses Wochenende unglaublich toll, auch wenn wir insgesamt gefühlte 20 Stunden in einer grossen Aula hocken mussten, während die Präsidente die gleichen Reden hielten, die ich schon in der Schweiz etliche Male gehört habe und in 10facher Kopie auf Blatt habe. Aber ich habe viele sehr tolle Menschen kennengelernt und habe endlich meine 3 besten Freundinnen aus Amerika getroffen, mit denen ich zuvor seit über 5 Monaten auf WhatsApp sowie Skype Kontakt hatte.
